N.
Meltem Daysal is an Assistant Professor in the Department
of Econometrics & Operations Research
at Tilburg
University and a Research Fellow
at IZA.
She
received her B.A. in Economics from Bogazici University in 2003, and
her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Maryland, College Park in
2009. Professor Daysal’s research is in the fields of health
economics, labor economics and applied microeconomics. In one line of
work, she examines spillover effects from disadvantaged groups, such as
the uninsured, the immigrants or the limited language proficient, to
the rest of their communities. In another line of research, she
investigates the role that medical innovations, technology and
information have on health and labor market outcomes. Some of her work
lies at the intersection of these two areas, studying spillover effects
of new medical information on health and labor market behavior.
Finally, she is also interested in the determinants of disparities in
health and health behavior, especially the role of language proficiency
and education in shaping these disparities. In recent years, she also
became interested in the impact of expected income payments on
short-term health outcomes. She
teaches empirical
econometrics at the graduate level and econometric methods at the upper
undergraduate level.
